Manifesting Your Wildest Dreams

One of the most difficult yet liberating personal challenges is ridding yourself of the unwanted baggage of your own past. I’m not talking about your mother-in-law. I’m referring to all the negative programming that’s been downloaded into that mental computer called your brain. If you don’t think you’ve been programmed, you’re fooling yourself. You are a total of everything you’ve been taught.

Those lessons and everything else you’ve mentally processed goes into the development of your ego - and we all have egos, good, bad or otherwise. Most of the time our ego serves us well. It makes us act altruistically, drives our passions and keeps us fit. Other times our ego stops us from succeeding and finding true happiness. We can never eliminate the ego; after all, we’re human, but there are things we can do to eliminate some of the negative programming and excess mental baggage we’ve accumulated over the years. I’ve discovered that if you can clean out your mental file cabinet every once in a while, you open yourself up to the unknown and subsequently, to the manifestation your wildest dreams.

There are lots of methods out there for identifying and eliminating negative mental programming. Some involve going to self-discovery lectures and workshops such as the Landmark Education programs.

Some involve psychiatric treatment. Some even involve hypnosis where you dispel negative memories from a past life. Most of these methods, while powerful, can take a good bid of effort. What I’m suggesting here is a lot easier. It’s a combination of self-programming and Noetic science – noetic meaning a bit of “mental phenomena” backed up by theories of quantum physics. I’m talking about creative visualization.

What is Creative Visualization?

Simply stated, creative visualization is about focusing your thoughts on something you’d like to come true. You include lots of details and you stay focused and positive while visualizing. The act of creative visualization allows you to focus on what you desire without anybody judging you about your choice – including you! You don’t let thoughts like “I don’t deserve this” or “that’s beyond my reach” get it the way. Creative visualization can dispel those myths.

A bit of history here……The term creative visualization became popular in the early 1970’s by Shakti Gawain. Her simple little book, called “Creative Visualization” became an instant best seller and has sold over three million copies worldwide. Shakti had a profound impact on who I am today. Needless to say, creative visualization worked for me.

Practicing creative visualization daily sends your positive message or thoughts out to the quantum field of infinite possibilities. I for one believe that thought is powerful matter that vibrates so quickly we are unable to see it within this dimension. If we believe that our thoughts are real they eventually manifest as things.  This seemingly absurd hypothesis is actually gaining a good bit of scientific attention, but rather than get too scientific I’ll just say creative visualization can be very powerful and it’s healthy to put out the “good vibes”.  Falling back on negative thoughts is like feeding spoiled food your ego. It also sends out negative vibes to the universe.

Here’s a little step-by-step guide if you’d like to try creative visualization

  • Set aside some time when you know you will not be disturbed. Turn off your cell phone and turn down the volume on the house phone.
  • Sit in a comfortable chair. Lying down may cause to fall asleep, as creative visualization can be very relaxing.
  • You may want to light some pleasant incense or a scented candle. Turning on some soothing music that’s not distracting is also ok. Do whatever you think will help to create a soothing atmosphere.
  • When you are ready, begin by taking some slow deep breaths in through your nose. Don’t force anything.
  • Imagine that there is a root growing out of your feet and it’s traveling down into the earth. When it’s deep in the earth, imagine the earth’s nourishing energy traveling up the root into your body. It’s ok to visualize this energy as a stream of color - whatever color you like. The energy continues to travel up your legs, your torso your arms and out through the top of your head. This visualization helps you stay grounded, so you don’t “space out”.
  • Now imagine another form of energy - the vast wisdom of the universe is traveling from out of the cosmos into the crown of your head. Again, you can choose a color for this stream. It passes through your body at a gentle pace and exits out the soles of your feet.
  • Now, if you can, visualize both energies, one coming from the ground, the other from the sky flowing through your body. You are the connecting entity conducting the two benevolent forces of the heavens and earth. When you feel that this visualization is complete, shift your thoughts and begin visualizing something you would like. It can be anything you desire such as moving into a beautiful new home, driving the car of your dreams or seeing yourself or a loved one in perfect health. Enjoy what you see. Discover the details – what color is your car? What’s playing on the car radio? What’s growing in the garden of your new home? Are you dancing with your loved one? See it in detail and enjoy the sensation.
  • When you are finished (and there is no rule as to how long you need to visualize), imaging that there is a beautiful pink bubble surrounding your visualized dream. (Pink represents the heart). Release the bubble up into the universe and into the field of infinite possibilities.

That’s all you need to do. It’s a good idea to repeat this exercise daily, or at least a few times a week. Don’t expect immediate results - it’s unlikely but not impossible. Just know that you have put the forces of the universe to work in your favor.

Some Advice from Shakti Gawain, author of the book Creative Visualization

Shakti is a wise teacher. She has always discouraged what she calls “greed or shallow-minded thinking”. For example, many people use creative visualization to accumulate wealth. So many are under the misconception that if we have lots of money we will be happy and fulfilled. "The way it actually works is the reverse," she explains. "You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want."

Being who "you really are" is your true self without the negative programming that stops you from being successful and living the life your love.

Just to sum things up…Practicing creative visualization will help you to re-direct your negative thoughts and will help to clean out your mental closet of negative past programming so you can be "who you really are".

Remember to visualize the results rather than the means to the results. For example, don't visualize winning the Lottery, visualize the joyful activities that follow.

Test it out even for a day no matter how difficult or “unnatural” it may seem. You may be pleasantly surprised. Offer gratitude for little things everyday and have complete faith knowing your dream will come true and that your journey is meaningful. It’s the Law of the Universe.

Not only did I enjoy reading this hub, Green Lotus, but I believe in its intent to bring about positive occurrences in one's own life. Of course, as you know, I have experience in meditation and so am fully aware of its inherent qualities and benefits. I visualized the life I see fit every day and see it very clearly. I imagine myself and my loved ones happy, healthy, and grateful for all that we have. Although I am anti-materialistic, I do pine for a newer car, not for its eye-appeal, but for it's likelihood that it won't break down or is a liability on long road trips! I don't want a mansion per se, but a house that I can call my own which will in turn allow me to finally get a dog! I could care less what others think, as I want these things to suit my own needs. It all boils down to my "intent" overall that drives me. I don't have to tell you what that is :D

Thanks so much, Green Lotus. I want to try this exercise now!

I enjoyed this read very much. The Law of Attraction, visualization, and dream manifestation are subjects that have been of great interest to me for nearly 20 years. Your presentation flows very comfortably. I will watch for more of your work in this field.

Great Hub - Reminds me a lot of The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

Nice to be reminded that we are what we think.

That you all!

Dohn...you are on a magical path. If you're adding visualization to your many talented efforts, what can say? Can I invest in your life?

Niterite - I'm thrilled to have made your acquaintance and I'm delighted to be a mutual fan! We have much in common and I have lots of good reading to catch up on.

Dear Laura, so true, the Secret is a treasure and perhaps the first truly successful videos of this genre to reach millions. Even the mighty Ted Turner's attempt at spreading the same idea bombed a decade earlier. Hopefully, the message will continue to grow exponentially through powerful vehicles such as Hubpages. Thanks for your comments as always.

An uplifting collection of positive visualizations. I really enjoyed this piece Green Lotus. I wish I could set aside more regular daily meditation/visualization time, seems almost like a luxury when I know it's not.

I also liked the Gawain quote: "You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want."

More and more that is my personal mantra. Thanks GL!

So glad to see you here Shamel. I've become a fan of yours too!

Ben, there's always time to visualize. Try right before drifting off to sleep. (preferably in bed)

the ego can be eliminated in a silence, where an explosion happens in a timesless moment, erases all past memories, and that moment there will be a giant awakening of the soul, and whatever small ego reamaining(which helps one to move in a state of trance)will be sucked into that great nameless experience where one finally reaches to the state of nothingness.

Thanks for commenting ramtulip. True enlightenment, or total bliss is possible they say. but alas, most of us are not quite there yet.

I need to get back into making time for creative visualization again. While living on the island of Kauai, I had the opportunity of meeting Shatki while attending her workshops. Thanks for an inspiring hub.
