Small Breasted Women

This is a tribute to Small-Breasted Women. Although I doubt whether anybody has tried to document it, I would venture to guess that there are fewer small-breasted women than in the past since so many women have opted to increase the size of their breasts surgically. That’s why today, clothing manufacturers add fabric to tops to accommodate larger breasts, even on small sized clothing.
Since bras are hard to find in small sizes, most small-breasted women have a terrible time finding one that fits. When sporting a t-shirt or other fitted garment, a small-breasted woman with an ill-fitting bra often looks lumpy chested. What’s worse, if she’s not filling out her gently padded cups she’s bound to cave in when giving someone a hug. Not terribly sexy. Nevertheless, choosing to have small breasts is admirable in my opinion. It takes great conviction to find ready to wear clothing that fits, what’s more, the petite woman must endure a media that regards being “bigger” as being sexier.
Screen Sirens Of Yesteryear
Hollywood in the 30’s had no problems with small-breasted women as long as they could act. Screen sirens of Hollywood’s golden age rarely displayed a deep cleavage, but they were sultry, intelligent, humorous and sexy. Today if you’re not sporting big ka-jungies it’s a lot tougher to get noticed and if you do make it into the Hollywood roster you run the risk of being accused being anorexic.
In the 20’s 30’s and 40’s, if you were petitely proportioned, as was the brilliant comedic actress Myrna Loy, film studios simply gave you a clever costume. As you can see above, both the fur trim as well as the ruffled bodice on Myrna’s gowns enhances her neckline and gives her the illusion a fuller profile.
Another seductive costume treatment for the mammary challenged performer was a cropped top with a high-banded cup holder. In the third photo above, you can see that since Loy lacked cleavage, costumers focused in on what was left. The costume demonstrates what even the smallest women can flaunt – perky little breast bottoms peeking out from beneath the top. It’s probably the only instance where gravity does something to enhance the beauty of the human body.
In the 20’s and thirties you could still be considered a bombshell even if your bullets were only the size of BB’s. Claudette Colbert who later starred with Clark Gable in the Oscar Winning film “It Happened One Night” demonstrates that when you’re almost flat, a low cut gown can go lower on you than your buxom sister.
Speaking of Hollywood Bombshells, Mae West and Jean Harlow while not exactly small-breasted, were women whose sexual allure became legendary because of their sex appeal, not because of their breasts.
Back then, all you had to do to be sexy was to powder your face, pluck off your brows and wear a feather boa or a fur wrap, and a sexy smirk. I think now that fur is (almost) out and silicone is in, we’re faced with a real dichotomy of beauty ethics – naturally enhanced beauty or surgically enhanced beauty?
Sex Goddesses Of The 50’S And 60's
Moving through history…The Fifties were the era of bullet bras, Anita Ekberg, Sophia Lauren, Bridget Bardot and Marilyn Monroe movies. These women had naturally large bosoms and while they weren’t all great talents, they were all considered super-sex goddesses.
Audrey Hepburn, broke the mold. This tiny-breasted movie star was such a good actress and such a great beauty, nobody noticed that she never revealed any sign of having a bust – even at her sexiest in “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”.
Injected silicone for breast enlargement was available but was still a dodgy procedure, not recommended for women who were concerned about silicone slipping out of the breast area into unthinkable nether regions. Implants were in the earliest stages production.
Twiggy, the superstar model of the 60’s became famous for her sexy face and shapeless body. Overnight, flat was back in fashion. Twiggy even made Mae West look busty.
Today there are far fewer flat-chested superstars. Keira Knightly who is unabashedly flat is also one of those talented actors who are been accused of being anorexic. I wish the press would get it right. Keira’s body is no thinner than Jennifer Love Hewitt’s except for the fact that her mammaries aren’t massive.
Even Lady GaGa is (so far) of modest proportion. The reining queen of pop and exotic costumes is seen here in all her well-proportioned glory, proving if you know how to wrap ‘em and strap ‘em you’ll look killer no matter how far they protrude.
I don't believe svelte Natalie Portman would have been cast as Nina in "Black Swan" had she had breast implants. I'm hoping her Oscar win along with the film's success will re-popularize the natural beauty of small breasted women.
Another Academy Award winner and outspoken small-breasted woman, Sandra Bullock joked about recent rumors that she was planning a breast augmentation.
“I need surgery. I’m getting some boobs. I think that’s my
problem. All my brains are in my butt, they’re not in my chest.
“I want to be the bimbo, I want to be looked at as the bimbo, purely as a
sexual object. I’ve been working for that for a very long time.”

There's something about petite women that just shows a natural beauty. The "bigger is better" mentality of today's world is really getting out of hand when it comes to cosmetic surgery. I notice women all the time that look totally out of proportion. It's an absolute shame.

Personally I have always preferred smaller breasted women, I think large breasts are just ugly, and as for people like Pamela Anderson and Jordon they just look deformed. Natural is beautiful, for this guy anyway, nice hub Green One ; )

Gosh - I'd never thought of that! It's so true - the stars of the thirties were mostly flat and yes, they were sizzling! Hurray for them!! And hurray for you!! I admit I don't have much on my top to leave people gaping - oh, I take that back - I often dribble tomato sauce down me which gives people quite a lot to stare at. As for bras - I gave up on them ages ago. It wasn't a feminist move though - I just needed something to clean the windows with!

As a small 34B bra size myself I can say it does have its advantages, for a start it isn't always essential to wear a bra at all, and many men do prefer smaller breasts anyway. On occasion I have considered if I would have mine enlarged slightly, but it has never been important enough for me to get around to it, so clearly I am not that bothered! Actually a good wonderbra can make even the smallest boobs look great and can definitely create a cleavage with no problem or empty spaces in the cups.

I can't say that size makes any difference to me but I surely prefer natural over phony any day. I didn't realize these Hollywood stars-of-old were small chested. I guess I didn't pay much attention to that. I'm a leg man. :-)

it's not the matter of the size, even you have huge boop, they will fade away,when you'll grow old. But if you have inner beauty, you don't need big boop or big butt, everybody will look at you.

4. People come in all shapes and sizes and we're all attractive to someone (oh, I wish!)

I don't understand why a woman would want those huge freakish looking implants..There has to be a psychological component to it. I am so very happy and comfortable with my breasts..they fit my body and while some would say they are not very small, some would ( 32C )..I have some friends with large breasts and they are always complaining of neck and back pain, or that guys just stare at their boobs all the time. I have seen some women with implants that look amazing but they have stayed in the range of normal, natural size. It is kind of sad we can't be happy with who we are but it has always been hard when growing up all we see is the skinny pretty girls on tv and in the magazines. And the magazines with the photoshopping of pictures to make women have impossible and unnatural figures is just so wrong. That said we all know this won't be changing anytime soon :(

I understand where you're coming from and it's great that with the right bra/clothing we can make ourselves look fantastic! I am an actress and I am due to go to an audition for a film role I'm really keen on, however I have just been informed that my role has a very small sex scene were I would be required to go topless. As part of the flat chested group of women, this really scares me and I don't know whether I should go to the auditon because of this, which seem so 'petit' and stupid! Any advise?
jenbobs. Of course you should go! Don't assume that everything you've got isn't exactly what the casting director is looking for! Also, there are so many creative ways to shoot a sex scene including cutting in a stand-in for the close ups :)
Thank you for this hub! We smaller endowed women need a boost too. I've never had a complex about mine. Big deal, they aren't huge. They're in proportion with the rest of of me! I like padded bras too. Why the heck not? So 34B/36A makes me very happy and spousey hasn't complained either.

I love that we can say we are small breasted and am happy the way we feel about ourselfs. This is the frist time I could admit it, but my husband does love my breasts just the way they are. I would not have it any other way. Power to the small!

This article was so refreshing! Although I'm only 16, the- bigger-the-better mentality is in the minds of all my peers. Like Keira Knightly, I have a small frame and bust and often get called anorexic. There's nothing wrong with being petite! In fact, I'd prefer to be small over fake like most Hollywood stars these days. What kind of example does that show? Women like Audrey (my idol) and Keira are better role models.

I can't believe I never saw this hub until right now!! but anyway I really do understand the insecurities that small breasted women face. My cousin almost committed suicide twice because she was so unhappy with her breasts. She has two kids and sometimes she used to ask me to breast feed her kids because her boobs were so small and mine are like four times bigger than hers. She attempted to go under the knife but got cold feet. I wish women would just be happy with what God gave them and not try to alter anything. Great hub xx

There are nany of us men who are extremely attracted to small breasted women, and women who have small breasts for the most part have much more sensitivity in their breasts than the 44Ds. As an attractive male in Southern California who is a successful TV producer and well off financially I find it difficult to meet small breasted women.

thanks for the great hub! I've always had small breasts and had the barbie-doll syndrome fear for most of my teenage years. Thank God I never had any plastic surgery (I just don't believe in changing what God gave us), and I'm doubly thankful that my other half loves 'em tiny...he always says, "more than a mouthful is a waste!"

Believe it or not, being naturally DD is not exactly easy either. I get the lumpy boobs whenever i'm on my period and my breast bulge out the top of my bra. Being fairly thin, finding a 34DDD is nearly impossible even though I think that is my size for one week out of every month.
I rarely can find cute tops that don't make me look slightly slutty. I used to overly worry about modesty, but now, I'm like as long as my husband is okay with it, I'm wearing the top anyway.
Bikinis are the hardest to buy, because I think they assume if you are a 34DD that you want to show off your chest. Trying to find one that covers the bottom of your chest and nipple is hard. People tease me because I always wear grandma bathing suits. It's not that I'm not proud of my body, but I prefer for my body to be an enjoyment to my husband and myself and not be a place for teenage and up boys to stare.
I always think girls with smaller chests look so much cuter in clothes. Plus, I think there are a lot of guys who prefer smaller chest girls. It's just with a big chest, it does catch your eye. I even catch myself looking at a large chested women if she's wearing cleavage bearing shirt. Not because i think it's hot, just because it's... well... out there.

Women can be bautiful in all shapes and sizes. I find a confident, playful, and accepting attitude more sexy than anything else. Big women, small, petite and in the middle, all can be pretty and all can be ugly, its all about personality. Looks don't matter to me really, just whats in your heart. The prettiest women (according to hollywood) quickly become the ugliest with the wrong attitude.

It's not so much the shape of your bridges as DeGreek would compare them, but in my humble opinion, it's the shape your mind is in over the size of your bridges. For me as Tonymac observed, anything more than a handful is a waste. I prefer my ladies small to medium size breasted. Although Dolly looks fine strutting her stuff on stage to. Ohhhh my dear, the beauty and scent of a woman regardless of shape and size, ha Green you have my vote..UPPPP it is.

Great Hub!! I love tiny breasts on women! (But bras are not needed on the petit so why bother?!) To me, coming from a family of big-breasted female relatives led me away from finding the family marine buoy types. I suppose if I needed a “life-preserver” I’d reconsider. Big boobs were a non-sexual turn-off. Big breasts always triggered motherhood in my eye. Cute, small’n tiny was and is very sexy, huge boobs are a turn-off and fake ones are defiantly OUT!
Nice documentation of the history of women of little bust size. I have noticed Ms. Knightley as well as Debra mesing and am encourages they did not fall to the pressure of their peers in altering what God gave them to fit an artificial stereotype. In fact some of those who chonse to augment look phony and will come to regret it as they age.

I loved this. I love women that can stand proud of their smaller breast size. Yes, I am a man but I do love the smaller breast. It is natural and not in your face.
Also, those women that enlarge their breasts state and do not like it even when you stare at their breasts after they are enlarged. I am sorry but then why did you do it then?

well i am against artificial ones,by gf has got good middle sized ones,it all depends on girl's confidence. But we all know size does matter ,but oversize is not good.

Hi Green Lotus, I for one am a lover of small breasted women, much better proportioned and a pleasure to look at. I know I'm not one of the masses of me who crave over big saggy breasts, stuffed into their oversize bras but sadly hang under the ladies armpits when unsupported. Much rather go for petite, beautifully formed and pert breasts which stay like that for many years down the line. As for not being able to buy smaller size bras, maybe people need to internet shop from China, all bras here are of the smaller padded variety, very pretty too. So how do I know, well having a Petite Chinese partner gives me a good understanding on the subject of small breasts and small bras. In my opinion a petite well proportioned "S" frame is much more attractive than just BIG orgs. Have a look at my hub and browse my site to see some examples of beautiful small breasted women. Living in China as I do, it is a delight to see such natural beauty of women who do see the necessity to bare as much breast as possible although they do show as much leg as possible.

As it happens, my dear Watson, someone HAS charted the change in average breast size. It's easy, really. Bra manufacturers are always keeping stock of what sells. The average in America just since 1996 has changed from 34B to 36C. Wow, right?
But appreciation of more level terrain isn't lost today. The fashion industry prefers scrawny, flat models, like Kate Moss.
Anyway, great work here, Lotus. I'm all for women finding ways to embrace, cup, fondle, and just generally enjoy, their gumballs. And they can feel free to send me videos of that. As much as I like humongous hooters, I know how to appreciate a good set of mosquito bites.

liljenjen I'm so happy to learn that you've got a new perspective on things! There are just as many guys out there who are totally turned off to fake breasts as there are men who think fake is great. I think women get implants because they want to look sexier. I would never them just for someone else. It's your body after all.

Thats fine, it just seems like there is a site for everything else. Many women are self conscious of their size and don't realize that there are many men in the woeld that think they look wonderful with what God gave them.
Hello again Roger. I bet there is already a site for what you suggest. Self image is a great topic; one I do enjoy writing about. The media/Hollywood ect. have a powerful influence on what we are supposed to look like.
I havw never seen one on the net that wasn't associated with porn. I produce television shows and I am so tired of intervewing prospects for a show that all have 20 pounds of silicone or saltwater on their chests. Somehow they think that having 44DDD boobs will help them get a role. It might be ok with rockabilly car shows or motorcycle shows, but in serious programming it does not represent the average American Woman.
I am a male who finds small breasts extremely attractive. Far more attractive that Large... Large can be .... gross.. droopy, floppy, lying off into the armpits... Small is BEAUTIFUL... and I hate seeing women getting enlargements when I am hoping to meet someone with small breasts!! I have spoken to MANY of my guy friends... and although they like to LOOK at someone with larger breasts... the majority will admit that they want to BE WITH (in the long term) with someone who is smaller....
Milla Johovich, Keira Knightly, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Carpenter,... and the MANY small breasted "famous actressess" out there should show you that Small is Beautiful.. To me, it THEE biggest attraction.
Lonebirch these are wise words. (BTW, Kate Hudson recently got larger ones). I wonder why your acquaintances feel they like to look at girls with big breasts, but be with someone with small breasts. Just wondering if big breasts are being associated with loose morals and tiny brains? Funny it used to be that way with bleached blondes :)

Big breasted women we're fun to look at when I was 14 but then you mature and you decide that you want to get to know the girl not her breasts. I find that the older I get in years that petite women seem to be getting more and more sexy and crap like Heidi Montag are at best a joke.

Personally I prefer small breast A & B cups are fine and on some women they say sexy louder than a triple C-Cup would. And to me double and Triple D's are just to much of a good thing.

Amen! Even though it is quite apparent, based on the number of comments, that small breasted women are now valued, I have to say that it is unfortunate that it has not always been that way. If I would have had the money when I was younger I probably would have had a boob job. Thankfully I did not and am very happy with the way I am at this point in life. Chatkath I agree totally with your sentiment. Yes, I too might have succumb to the peer pressure, but now that you have me thinking about it, I have to give myself 10 points for staying au naturelle. One of my closest friends in college had one of the first boob jobs way back when it a big deal. I think I learned at that time that it wasn't worth the $$$ or the effort. Glad you enjoyed this one. Chatkath- Google just determines a site too sexy and they do the disabling. Sometimes if you remove the sexy bits you can resubmit it for ad consideration, but they'll never tell you what words they found offensive. I think they consider the word "breast" or "bosom" highly offensive!!
Thanks Green Lotus, so now I won't be surprised when I am "disabled". For years, I did online marketing for a company whose primary product was a silicone breast enhancer. When I added their storefront to Amazon we had "issues" frequently, they claimed customers reported our content as offensive:) Should have known better, I really appreciate the info!

SamboRAmbo- Cosmetic surgery is never really necessary unless it is for a disfigurement. Unfortunately the media and social pressures have changed the perceptions of the word "disfigurement" which is why so many women feel implants are "necessary". We live in a strange new world. What a nice article! It's so true; to me, there are so many beautiful women out there who are small breasted. Personally, I think that there are by far more attractive small breasted women than there are large breasted women. I think that small breasts really create a more delicate look to a woman's body that's just absolutely beautiful.

Very interesting read,and glad to know that not all men fancy fuller breasts, i am small framed (petite) and from where i come from not many men like...I used to often feel very insecure and as time went by i have gained confidence...good to know that there is hope! lol
